The world of The Witcher comes with deep and intricate lore, with hundreds of years of history spanning the Continent. The Conjunction of the Spheres centuries before the events of The Witcher 3 resulted in the people of the Continent needing to adapt to the existence of monsters and magic, which resulted in the creation of witchers and sorcerers.

Geralt served as the protagonist of The Witcher games across the entire trilogy, but CD Projekt RED has stated that the beloved witcher will not be the protagonist of its new series of games in The Witcher series. While saying farewell to Geralt will be difficult for fans, bringing in a new protagonist is a great opportunity to introduce new lore and expand the Continent and world of The Witcher series like never before. A protagonist like Ciri would blow open the doors of the lore and bring new potential to the series thanks to her role as Nilfgaard's heir and her Elder Blood, while even a witcher from another School and time period could bring new perspectives and even new monsters to the series.

Bringing in a New Perspective For The Witcher 4

The Witcher games have been primarily seen through the perspective of Geralt, with some short perspectives from Ciri in The Witcher 3. While Geralt's perspective gave a lot of depth to witchers, monsters, politics, and the people's opinions of witchers across the Continent, it was still limited by his own experiences. A change in the protagonist, particularly if that protagonist is Ciri, would give The Witcher games more depth and perspective in terms of the lore.
Despite Ciri's official role as a witcher, her Elder Blood, the heir to the throne of Nilfgaard, and the Lady of Space and Time gives her a very different point of view on the magic, the politics of the Continent, and the people who exist in The Witcher. The Witcher led by Ciri would be an incredible opportunity to expand on the lore of The Witcher. While this would be great for veteran players, and even for those who have read the books, it would be particularly valuable for new players who are completely new to the series and haven't played any of the previous games.

A New Time Period in The Witcher 4
The new The Witcher series may take place after a time skip, and Ciri may not be the protagonist. The teaser image for The Witcher 4 indicates the School of the Lynx, which is a new witcher school. If the new protagonist of The Witcher games is still a witcher and isn't Ciri, there is the opportunity for more diverse and exciting lore exposition, as the new protagonist will likely have a different view of the world depending on their circumstances.
Another crucial component is the time period the new The Witcher games will take place in, as it will determine the role that witchers will have in the new game, as well as the state of the Continent. Depending on player choices, The Witcher 3 left off with Nilfgaard in a place of relative security, with Radovid possibly assassinated, the war in the North possibly coming to a close, and the Wild Hunt defeated. If The Witcher 3's sequel series takes place significantly longer afterward, the political and social world of the Continent may likely look significantly different.
